Eleanor is currently working on a three-year international postdoctoral research project called "Learning Through Dancing," funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) from 2025 through 2028 with a two-year Visiting Scholar appointment at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
PZ Work
Eleanor Bauer is an interdisciplinary dance artist, educator and researcher. Her work is a synthesis of embodied intelligences, a practice of making sense with the senses in motion. A Visiting Scholar at HGSE, Eleanor is connecting with Project Zero researchers to further and synthesize her studies.
Research and Background
In "Learning Through Dancing," Eleanor aims to collect, connect, and further develop methods for dance practices to be applied in school classrooms to enhance embodied and enactive learning processes. Integrating dance and movement more deeply into teaching methods and curricula for general academic subjects is meant to reinforce academic concepts and skills through experiential, interactive, and participatory learning paradigms; contribute to integration and collaboration among different types of learners; and support students' overall wellbeing through the social, emotional, and self-regulation skills developed through dancing together. The timely urgence of this research lies in counteracting the proven negative effects that increased screen time, social media, and sedentary classrooms have on youth by foregrounding the body's fundamental intelligence as central in learning and development. The work is about making the body—and its need to move—a powerful asset in classroom learning instead of a nuisance.
Originally from Santa Fe, Bauer holds a BFA in Dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts (2000-2003), is a graduate of the Performing Arts Research and Training Studios' Research Cycle (Brussels, 2004-2006), and has a doctorate in Performative and Media-Based Practices with a Specialization in Choreography from Stockholm University of the Arts (2017-2022).
