Civic Thinking Through Making Resource Sheet

2021
A set of civic making activities that use creative processes to help learners think deeply about systems, identities, and social issues.
SUMMARY

Civic Thinking Through Making is a collection of civically focused making activities that invite learners to explore complex civic issues through creative processes. Emphasizing process over product, the activities support reflection, perspective taking, and meaning making by asking students to represent ideas visually, materially, or symbolically. Prompts such as making invisible systems visible, foregrounding overlooked aspects of civic life, storytelling with data, exploring identity, imagining future outcomes, and remixing existing artworks encourage learners to think critically about systems, power, and belonging. Designed for flexible use on their own or alongside ArtC thinking routines and arcs, the resource supports deep civic inquiry across individual, small group, and classroom settings.
