Interdisciplinary Studies Project

Text:

The Interdisciplinary Studies Project was a multi-year research initiative funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies that studied the complexities of teaching for interdisciplinary understanding. In the final phase, the project worked with a select group of high school teachers serving a broad range of student populations (Phillips Academy, Boston Latin, and Mission Hill, for example) to experiment with models of effective interdisciplinary teaching. Specific aims included: developing a pedagogical framework that teachers beyond those in our sample can use to design innovative interdisciplinary curricula of quality; creating a set of exemplary interdisciplinary teaching units on the topic of globalization; and advancing knowledge about the challenges and possibilities associated with interdisciplinary understanding among students and teachers.
