Resource Summary

The story of a small group of girls and boys creating a map:

The focus of this fragment is the city: its forms, its relations, its transformations, and its identity, which progressively changes and is redefined in the eyes of the children. Here we offer some reflections of a group of five and six year-old children who had been exchanging ideas and the thoughts about the theme of the city for a number of months. As the investigation progressed, we saw different perceptions of the city on the part of girls and boys. The two episodes describe the thoughts and ideas represented graphically by a group of three girls and a group of three boys as they designed and constructed collectively.
